Anti-Semitic Zionism

January 1st, 2010 Arab News No comments

I have always argued that all of Israel’s friends in the Arab world (who can be counted on the toes of one foot or two) are essentially rabid anti-Semites: from the King Hasan II of Morocco to Anwar Sadat to the holocaust-denying, Mahmoud Abbas. Sadat’s chief adviser and favorite propagandist, Anis Mansur, has been a big supporter of Israel. Yet, his articles are full of anti-Semitic fulminations that never get translated by MEMRI. MEMRI and other Zionist propaganda outlets, forgive and ignore anti-Semitism when expressed by supporters of Israel. Here, Mansur says that “Jews are ill-tempered by their very constitution and full of anxieties.”

MEMRI and Arab intellectuals

August 19th, 2009 Arab News No comments

This is very funny. When MEMRI sends a bulletin of some article by some obscure writer who wrote something that fits into the Zionist agenda, they always go out of their way to make that writer more important than he/she is, and they always don’t provide further information on that person. Today, I saw one bulletin from MEMRI about what some “Palestinian intellectual” has written. I knew what to expect. The person in question, Ahmad Abu Mater, as the bulletin does not tell you: was in fact a senior leader in Fath-Revolutionary Council: Abu Nidal’s organization for potato’s sake. He later moved to Olso where he became active in Saudi propaganda.

U.S. Military Downplays Qatar Coup Rumors

August 6th, 2009 Arab News 2 comments

Jeff Stein in CQ, here

“Senior American military officials Wednesday threw cold water on reports of an attempted coup d’etat in Qatar, nerve center for the U.S. military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.
…..Middle East media reported on Monday, Aug.3, that “various Arab websites are reporting on the sudden firing of senior Qatari military officials after they staged a failed coup attempt.”
In response to a query about the coup rumors, one of the senior U.S. military officials, speaking only on condition of anonymity, told SpyTalk, “We have no evidence to corroborate this.” ……
According to my CQ colleague Jonathan Broder, a longime Middle East hand, “the mutinous lot was said to have been Pakistanis and Yemenis, who serve in the army. About half of Qatar’s military is made up of foreign nationals. It was reported at the time that U.S. troops were involved in putting down the coup attempt.”
The Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI, cited Saudi and Jordanian sources for this week’s coup reports, implying they were true. ”According to the report on the liberal Saudi website Alssiyasi, Qatar’s chief of staff Hamad bin Ali Al-Attiya might also have been involved in the coup attempt,” MEMRI said.
“The Jordanian online daily Al-Haqiqa Al-Douliya noted that following the coup attempt, the Qatari Emir is considering reducing the powers of senior regime officials, including of the prime minister and foreign minister Hamad bin Jasem Aal Thani,” the MEMRI blog continued.
“After the Qatari chief of staff’s visit to Iran early last month, the Elaph website reported on disagreement among top Qatari officials on foreign policy,” it said.

The New Walid Jumblat

August 2nd, 2009 Arab News No comments

You may want me to update you about the political fortunes of Walid Jumblat since I don’t see neo-cons quoting him and MEMRI stopped citing his interviews and speeches. Today, Walid Jumblat spoke at his party’s congress and said that his meetings with American neo-conservatives have been a “black spot” in his history and that those neo-cons destroyed Iraq and Palestine. It is unlikely that Krauthhammer would be quoting Jumblat anymore.
