Iran scores the biggest hit in the ‘War on Piracy’

April 11th, 2012 Comments off
 ‘Iran’s Marine Commandos’
“… The war on piracy in the Horn of Africa has received a major boost following the capture of one of the world’s most wanted Somali pirate leaders, Mohamed Garad.

Garad, a former British soldier, is said to have been arrested together with 12 other suspected pirates on April 4 by Iranian commandos after they hijacked a Chinese cargo ship.
The co-ordinator of the East African Seafarers Association, Mr Andrew Mwangura, said Garad was captured after the seizure of the Chinese vessel, Xianghuamen, last week.
Xianghuamen is a Panama-flagged general cargo vessel owned by Nanjing Ocean Shipping Company of China.

The Asad family

March 2nd, 2012 Comments off
I don’t understand.  I wish that Bashshar would make an honest argument as to why the Asad family should continue to rule Syria? He knows that we know that the Ba`th is now an empty vessel and carries no political weight whatsoever. It had been operating in international waters.
He could not release any ‘operational details’ on its ‘routine’ and ‘national’ mission.
The German Navy has separate vessels in the area on a UN mission to stop arms smuggling into Lebanon by sea. Der Spiegel said the Alster, with a crew of 85, had been operating in the eastern Mediterranean since early November. It said the incident happened 15 nautical miles off the Syrian coast.
The vessel has acoustic and optical sensors for intelligence gathering…”
